The Fenix HP16R is a rechargeable high-performance outdoor headlamp. The spot- and floodlight can be used simultaneously or separately to deliver a max output of 1700 lumens, a runtime of 300 hours, and a far-reaching beam of 260 meters.

Main Features

  • Rechargeable headlamp. Up to 1700 lumens
  • USB-C charging. 3 hrs to fully charge
  • Has three different LEDs for Spot, Flood, and Red light, simultaneously or separately
  • A separate battery case on the back of the head to balance the weight for more comfortable wearing
  • Can use either a rechargeable Fenix ARB-LP3000 Li-polymer battery pack (included0 or 4 Ni-MH/Alkaline AA batteries.
  • Headlamp can be used while being charged
  • It is an upgrade for HP15UE (900 lumens 4xAA headlamp) and HP25R (1000 lumens rechargeable headlamp)

Q1. What kind of LEDs are used in HP16R?

A: A Luminus SST40 white light LED, a Cree XP-G3 S4 neutral white LED and an Everlight 2835 red

light LED.

Lighting angles: spotlight beam angle of 80°, spotlight center beam angle of 10°, floodlight beam

angle of 80°.

Q2. Does HP16R have overheat protection?

A: Yes. The lamp will accumulate a lot of heat when used at relatively high output levels for extended periods. When the lamp reaches a temperature of 65°C or above, the lamp will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 65°C, it will then allow the user for the reselection of the modes.

Q3. What battery does the HP16R support?

A:It supports the included 3000mAh Li-polymer battery, and compatible with 4 AA batteries (Ni-

MH / Alkaline).

Note: Due to the internal circuit limitation, when using AA batteries, the maximum brightness of spotlight mode is 800 lumens; and the brightness levels on spotlight mode and floodlight mode

cannot be simultaneously selected.

Q4: Lockout

  • Physical Lockout: There is a small tab above the switches to protect them from accidental activation (similiar to NU20)
  • Electrical Lockout: When the lamp is switched off, press and hold down either of the two switches or simultaneously press the two switches for 3 seconds, the lamp will blink red three times to indicate locked status. Press and hold down both buttons for 3 seconds to unlock it.
    • In locked status, clicking or pressing the switches will activate 3 one-second red blinks

Possible User Error

  • The battery, out of the factory, is blocked by an insulating paper which needs to be removed prior to charge or use the headlamp. Fenix attaches a reminder tag but it uses the same illustration as the one in other rechargeable flashlights, which can be confusing.
  • The battery pack can only be installed in one direction so it is not possible to install it incorrectly. However, one needs to observe the polarity marks when installing 4xAA batteries
  • Lockout: See above. If a buyer complains the light stops working, ask if he sees the red LED blinks (3 times) while he taps the switch.
